  • What is the 6888 kitchen incubator?
    6888 ("Six Triple Eight") Kitchen is a food business incubator dedicated to providing training, business support resources, and commercial kitchen space for under-resourced entrepreneurs developing food businesses. By providing start-up food entrepreneurs with needed business resources to overcome common hurdles, we will help support their success.
  • How do I apply to become a member?
    Applications are available on our website https://www.6888kitchen.org/application There is a $50 application fee to apply. Once the application form and fee have been received and reviewed by our staff, we will reach out within 10-15 days to discuss the next steps.
  • How do I schedule a tour of the 6888 Kitchen Incubator?

  • When will spaces be available for tenants to rent out for food prepping?
    Construction of our space has started, and we anticipate opening in March 2024. While waiting for the kitchen to open, we invite you to look into our Sharpen The Axe program.   • What are the rental rates?
    Rentals will be done on a membership basis with a six or 12-month contract. We offer hourly rates starting at $12 per hour (prep station) up to $25 per hour.   • Is there an annual member membership fee and what does it cover?
    A semi-annual membership fee of $100.00 will be assessed every six months or upon renewal of the User's license agreement. The fee helps cover all shared amenities, services, and ongoing operations that benefit members and contribute to their success. The fee is set based on the cost required to support our members effectively.
  • Is there a security deposit and what does it cover?
    The security deposit is $250 and will be used in the event of damages, policy violations, unpaid bills, early termination, etc. This deposit is refundable at the end of your membership if no deductions are required.
  • Do I need a business plan?
    Eventually - however, it is not necessary in order to become a member. Through our incubation services, we are able to offer assistance in creating and developing a business plan.
  • What equipment do members need to provide for themselves?
    Members are responsible for supplying their own small wares including cutting boards, knives, pots, storage containers, etc. 6888 Kitchen provides commercial appliances and kitchen equipment that most businesses would need.
  • What are the operating times?
    The 6888 Kitchen will be open for member use 24/7. Kitchen staff hours will vary but will be primarily during regular business hours. Members can work in the kitchen at any time, day or night, that is convenient to their schedule.
  • What is Sharpen the Axe?
    Sharpen the Axe (STA) is a comprehensive financial literacy and business coaching course for food businesses taught by our Executive Director, Charlynda Scales. Sharpen the Axe is an excellent opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to take your food and beverage business to the next level. We cover various topics, including financial planning, marketing, and operations management. Our team of experienced instructors is dedicated to providing you with the best possible learning experience, and we are confident that you will find the course both engaging and informative.   • Is the Sharpen the Axe course a requirement to become a member of the 6888 Kitchen Incubator?
    Completing our Sharpen the Axe (STA) program is NOT a requirement. However, we strongly encourage all food entrepreneurs to take the course as it provides valuable knowledge for anyone in the food service industry. The Sharpen the Axe program is designed to assist food business entrepreneurs in scaling their food businesses. I.e. growing their current client base, adding more products to their line, introducing e-commerce, selling in grocery stores, opening a restaurant or food truck, etc.
  • Can you provide me with more information about the Sharpen The Axe course?
    Sharpen the Axe (STA) is a comprehensive financial literacy and business coaching course for food businesses taught by our Executive Director, Charlynda Scales. The STA program will include the following: Food safety instruction Food business permitting education and facilitation Legal requirements instruction Business finance lessons Sourcing and distribution information Marketing support STA students will receive financial literacy training and access to funding institutions. As we discuss business structures, finances, financial management, and business plan development, we will also educate participants on options for accessing start-up capital. OH Taste plans to partner with financial institutions that can provide additional financial literacy guidance and small business support.
  • Who teaches the Sharpen the Axe course?
    Our Executive Director, Charlynda Scales, teaches the Sharpen the Axe course. She owns Mutts Sauce and has over ten years of experience in the food industry. Through STA, Charlynda teaches the real-world budgeting, pricing, accounting, and money management skills entrepreneurs need but often need more when first launching.
  • When is the next Sharpen the Axe Cohort?
    Good News! Our Sharpen the Axe program is now a digital course that can be taken at your own pace so you no longer have to wait for the next Cohort to begin. For questions about the class email Charlynda Scales at STA@ohtaste.org.
  • How can I get my product approved for sale out of the kitchen?
    6888 Members will have the opportunity to sell approved products produced in the kitchen out of our retail space. More information will be provided during our member orientation.
